Solar Energy Caculator for Azerbaijan
Norsk Energi consultants have developed an online calculator to calculate all main elements of a solar system for electricity and heating generation.
The practical challenge facing by building owners with interest in various kinds of solar installations is to determine the optimal dimension for the system, which will allow to "collect" the greatest flow of solar energy and to convert it into the desired form of energy (heat, electricity) at the lowest cost. Both for solar and photovoltaics (PV) systems, one would often like to find out:
- How to choose a solar heater or photovoltaic module?
- How to determine how much energy could be yield from 1 square meter of solar panels?
- How many modules could be placed on the roof?
- Can the solar energy generated meet the demand at different seasons? What are potential costs and savings?
The new online calculator gives possibility to an unprofessional user to quickly and easily calculate all main elements of a solar system for electricity and heating generation. User can quickly assess both technical and economic feasibility of using solar photovoltaic panels and/or heaters, tailored to a different types of buildings. By changing performance characteristics of the system, an optimal configuration and set-up of equipment could be established, while additional earnings and costs - estimated.
The solar calculator was developed using the climatic data of the Republic of Azerbaijan and was transferred to the local Renewable Energy Development Agency. The work was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway under the framework of technical assistance project “Sustainable buildings in Azerbaijan”.
