Gassnova commissioned Norsk Energi to undertake a complete impact assessment for their planned carbon capture facility at Kårstø.

On request of Norsk Skog Saugbrug, Norsk Energi undertook a project to map the impact the facility had on the surrounding environment in Halden.

Environmental impacts were mapped through long-term measurement of emissions, testing in the surrounding environment, analysis of weather conditions and health effects of local inhabitants. A website was established as part of the mapping to enable engagement of surrounding residents. Here they could report their observations of airborne emissions, odour and other environmental concerns, together with a brief description of the weather situation at the time.

Around 70% of all natural gas consumed in Norway is used as a replacement for oil based fuels, which have significantly higher emissions of CO₂, NO_x, SO₂ and particulates. This was one of the findings which were outlined in an analysis developed by Norsk Energi on behalf of the Norwegian Natural Gas Association (Norsk Naturgassfoeening) and Norwegian Gas Forum (Norsk Gassforum).
